Welcome to the Center for Urban Partnerships

Mission Statement

The mission of the UNLV Center for Urban Partnerships (CUP) is to create an interdisciplinary university and community partnership focusing primarily on research and program development that addresses contemporary issues facing both individuals and communities. Areas of concern include mental health, addictions, environmental issues, public leadership and administration, poverty, juvenile justice, child welfare, criminal justice, addictions and prevention.

With its establishment, CUP will become a highly visible and active manifestation of the University's mission as a premier urban academic teaching and research environment. The mission of CUP is to provide the leadership to encourage collaborative research, education, and service projects for and with the Las Vegas community. As an umbrella organization, CUP will provide an infrastructure and serve as a clearinghouse where faculty and staff from the university can seek partnerships in research, service, and education. Currently, the University has specialized centers for gaming and environmental research, but lacks a visible entity to encourage, support, and sustain community/university partnerships to address important local and regional issues.
